Where the “michahuang” name is from
I have a common name. I grew up in 90s — when Michael Jackson was the king of pop and Michael Jordan was the king of basketball. So very naturally my parents liked the name, Michael, and named me Michael.
My first job out of college was at NVIDIA. It was a big company with a decent amount of Chinese people. The convention was email at the time was “mhuang” if you’re the 1st Michael Huang, “mihuang” if you’re the 2nd Michael, …”. I ended up being “michahuang”. It ended up sticking with me because I really enjoyed working at NVIDIA and I liked how you can read out “michahuang” as “MEE KAH” + “HUANG”.
